Assessment 2 Guidance

Assessment Task: (word limit 3000 words)

A recent patient satisfaction survey showed that the Emergency Department (ED) received
very poor ratings from patients and users. The ED has several long-standing problems:
(I)Overcrowding, (ii)extended length of stay, (iii)prolonged waiting time, (iv)excessive
patient flow time, (v)patients who leave without being treated. As head of Quality Assurance
and improvement of your hospital, you have been allocated to prepare a literature review in
order to propose a suitable methodological approach. Your work is needed to provide
scientific orientation and evidence on how the process improvement methodologies can be
used to understand and fight these problems in the ED.

Your study should include the following:


• The objective of your literature review.
• A definition of the long-standing problems mentioned above.
• The potential roots of the long-standing problems in the emergency department
Use a Fishbone Diagram to represent your findings. Analyse your findings.
Presentation of the six sigma DMAIC as quality measurement and improvement methodology:
Define and describe the method, its steps, explain how it can help to decrease the overcrowding in
the emergency departments. New process flowchart for the Emergency department.
Presentation of the importance of clinical governance implementation in the department.
