By definition, a Likert Scale is a unidimensional scale that researchers use to

collect respondents’ attitudes and opinions. Researchers often use this psychometric
scale to understand the views and perspectives towards a brand, product, or target
market (Fleetwood, 2018). This psychometric scale is frequently used by researchers
to know the viewpoints and attitudes of their target people about a certain brand, item,
or target market.
When responding to an item on the Likert Scale, the user expresses their degree
of agreement or disagreement. These scales make it possible to assess the
respondents' level of agreement or disagreement. The Likert scale makes a linear
assumption about the experience's strength and intensity. Hence, if perspectives can
be assessed, it goes from absolute agreement to absolute disagreement.
The 4-point Likert Scale is a type of Likert scale that enables researchers to
include four extreme options without a neutral choice. Whereas, the 5-point Likert
Scale collects data by giving respondents a neutral option to choose from if they do
not want to answer from the extreme options in their research design. Most of the
researchers prefer the 5-point Likert Scale because it is more accurate than the 4-point
Likert Scale, obviously because it has a limitation.
