1. Study the rainfall pattern in India. Mark the areas with abundant rainfall and regions with
deficient rainfall. Study the economy of these regions. Regions of water scarcity are also
the regions of acute poverty. Find out the connection between water scarcity and acute
poverty.
2. If you visit any town or village must have observed new roads and buildings have come up.
Work out a list of materials that have been used in building new roads and houses. Where
have these materials come from? What are the natural resources used in preparing these
materials? Find out ways in which the use of these materials can be reduced.
3. A water theme park has been set up in an area suffering from chronic shortage of water.
Unable to obtain required water and finding water to go waste, the angry villagers surround
the water park preventing the management to operate the park. How will you react to this
news?
4. The nature and wild life enthusiasts who do not depend upon forests have considerable say
in their management. Initially the conservationists raised their voice for particular animals
like tigers, elephants, rhinoceros. They have now recognized the need to preserve
Biodiversity?
(b) State the values that inspire them for this approach.
5. The 2011 earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan caused several nuclear accidents
including meltdown of seven nuclear reactors in Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. People
within a radius of 20km were evacuated. Many people died, got injured and were also
affected by radiations.
(a) Name two non-conventional sources of energy.
(b) Following Fukushima, there were lots of protests in India against nuclear power plant.
Do you think that India should not have nuclear power plant? Justify your answer with
reasons.
(c) What precautions should India take to avoid Fukushima type incidents?
