According to Wikipedia, engineering is the use of scientific principles to

model and construct machines, structures, and other items such as

tunnels, roads, vehicles, bridges, and buildings.
Engineering has made living beautiful and easy. Before engineering came
into existence, things were done in a crude way as a result, the standard of
living was so poor. During the prehistory periods when engineering was
not existing, there were no good roads and no good communication
systems. Some communication was done by the use of smoke signals,
drumming, birds, etc, there were no good hospitals when someone falls
sick treatment was done mostly by herbal doctors who mainly diagnose
by guessing or trial and error method. Also when one wants to travel,
journeys were made either by trekking or by the use of donkeys and
camels which was risky as sometimes travelers were attacked by wild
animals. Also, buildings comprise either mud houses or houses built with
sticks. There was no good clothing, no electricity, harsh weather
conditions could not be contained, death of a man was high but now
Engineering changed everything for the good of man.
With the advent of engineering, human activities greatly improved. Now
we have good roads, good hospitals, good communications equipment,
good clothing as we now have different fashions to choose from, we can
now travel on land, water, and air, we have electricity and I can also

One aspect of engineering that continues to marvel me is the area of
robotics and artificial intelligence developed by engineers where
machines try to mimic humans' actions. Artificial intelligence has made
life so easy to man by helping him carry out some functions that might
not be safe for a man to carry out. The use of artificial intelligence and
robots in deep-sea operations in remote locations to control the drilling of
oil and gas continues to impress me. The robots created by engineers now
can search for lost tools, fix damaged types of equipment and maintain
structures without man's physical intervention.
Finally, engineering has brought civilization to man. There are now
different branches of engineering such as civil engineering, robotics,
artificial intelligence, petroleum engineering, space engineering,
telecommunications engineering, etc. All contributing to more
advancement of man's activity
