Lidia Aviles- French took a selfie of herself trying to grasp the top of a very long ruler. Her photo is about how she felt very self-conscious about her height (4 foot 9) and how this insecurity made her feel. She states that she used to wish she was taller to satisfy the expectations of others but she no longer feels that way. Her photo is about self- acceptance and how trying to please others can lead to unhappiness. Use in The photo by Aviles-French will be used to introduce a lesson Teaching(Lesson related to photography. Students will then be shown how to create Idea) and 3-5 their own photo that showcases something that they have overcome Guiding with techniques on how to make things look bigger or smaller than Questions: they really are. The goal is to have students engage in a fun lesson that teaches them how to create a selfie that doubles as an optic illusion, learn how proportion and scale can be used to create interesting compositions, and also to have important conversations regarding the impact of bullying/cyberbullying and insecurity on mental health. Students will be encouraged to bring their own props/items or used ones provided by the teacher. All be given their choice of using their smartphone or using the camera on a provided iPad.
