Formula
The simple present tense has two formulas. The first is called verbal and is used when there is a verb, while
the second is called nominal and is used when there is no verb in the sentence. Instead, be (am, is, are)
needs to be added to this second formula.
Pattern Example
(+) I, You, They, We, Plural Subject + Verb 1 I go to school at 6 o’ clock in the morning
She, He, It, Singular Subject + Verb 1 (s/es) She eats banana with chocolate milk
(-) I, You, They, We, Plural Subject + do not+ Verb 1 I do not play football
She, He, It, Singular Subject + does not+ Verb 1 He does not clean his room
(?) Do + I, You, They, We, Plural Subject+ Verb 1? Do you eat pork?
Does + She, He, It, Singular Subject + Verb 1? Does she go to the hospital?
Notes:
2. In positive sentences, when the subject is she/he/it, the verb needs to be added –s/es.
3. Verbs ending with ch, sh, s, x, z, o + ES. Aside from that, only add -s in the end of the verb.
