A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN BIOLOGY 1

Date: May 11, 2023

I. OBJECTIVES
 Define cell modifications.
 Describe some cell modifications that lead to adaptation to carry out specialized
functions.
 Participate actively in the class through recitation.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Cell Types/Cell Modification
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References: MELC Code: (STEM_BIO11) and Text book
B. Materials: Laptop and IM’S

IV. PROCEDURE
Parts Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Response
A. Preparation 1. Classroom As the teacher counts,
Conditioning the students will:
(Let the teacher count 1,2,3) 1-arrange the chair
2-pick up the pieces of
paper; and
3-are now ready to pray

2. Prayer (The students will pray)

(Let us pray the Lord’s Prayer)

3. Greetings Good afternoon, ma’am!

Good morning class! Peace and All Good!

Please be seated Thank You

4. Checking of
Attendance
Say present if your name Present ma’am
was called.

Since no one is absent

today, so let’s proceed to our
next lesson this morning.

1. Elicit/ Review Let’s have a review first, before Yes, ma’am

moving on to our next lesson I
prepare a short game called as
“FACT or BLUFF”.

Directions: I will show you

different information about the
concept that we discuss
yesterday. If the information of
the concept is true say the
word FACT otherwise if it is
wrong then say the word
BLUFF.

“Is that clear?” Yes, ma’am

Are you ready? Yes, we are ready.

Questions:
1. The cell theory was Answers:
formulated through the
contributions of not one but - FACT
several scientists.

2. The Classical Cell Theory - BLUFF

that was proposed in the mid-
19th century has six
postulates.
- FACT
3. Thee word organelle is
literally translated as “little
organs”. They are structures
with specific functions found
within the cell.

4. All organelles found in - BLUFF

animal cells are also found in
plant cells.

5. The invention of - FACT

microscope become the
springboard for numerous
discoveries about the cell.

2. Engage/Motivation Before we start to our lesson

proper let’s have a short
activity.

Are you ready? Yes, ma’am we’re ready.

Directions: Identify each

picture based on the Hierarchy
of Biological Organization.

Answers:
- Cells
- Tissues
- Organ
- Organ System
- Organisms
Based from the picture Student- It’s all about
presented what would be our the cell types/ cell
lesson this morning? modification

Very Good!

This morning we will focus on

the cell modifications.

3. Explore/Activities Now let’s have our first activity

entitled “Match me!”

Are you ready? Yes, ma’am we’re ready!

Grouping and giving

directions.
Count 1 and 2, all number 1
stay this area and for group 2
in this area.
Directions: Using the manila
the students will match the
printed photos using the
printed description paste it in
the manila paper. Each group
will be given 3 minutes to
accomplish the task, and they
are going to choose a
representative to explain their
output.

The words are:

Cilia
Flagella
Pseudopods
Villi and Microvilli

4. Explain/Analysis Based on the activity, what Answer:

will be the correct answer? It will help it to survive
Why is it important to the change in the
understand cell kinds or surroundings and adapt
modifications? to it and Modifications
will help to counter any
attack on them. For
example, chameleon
change their body color
to escape predators with
the help of skin cells.
5. Elaborate/ The teacher will ask question
Abstraction to the students; Answer:
a. What is cell adaptations or changes
modification? acquired by the cell after
cell division that aids the
Cell modifications- is cell in various beneficial
adaptations or changes ways.
acquired by the cell after cell
division that aids the cell in
various beneficial ways.

The first examples of cell Answer:

surface modifications are the Villi are covered with
villi and microvilli. Based on even smaller hairlike
the activity what is villi and structures
microvilli based on the
structures of it or how can you
describe it?

Villi and Microvilli- The villi

move nutrients from lumen
(opening) of the intestine into
the circulatory system. Villi
are covered with even smaller
hairlike structures called
microvilli. Microvilli are
projections smaller than villi.
Their job is to also increase
the surface area so each villus
can absorb the maximum
amount of nutrients.

The second example is cilia

Based on the activity what is
cilia based on the structures Answer:
or how can you describe it? slender, microscopic,
hair-like structures.
Cilia- are slender, microscopic,
hair-like structures or
organelles that extend from
the surface. The function of
cilia is to move water relative
to the cell in a regular
movement of the cilia. This
process can either result in the
cell moving through the water,
typical for many single-celled
organisms, or in moving water
and its contents across the
surface of the cell.

The third example is the

Flagella. Based on the activity
what is cilia based on the Answer:
structures of it or how can you hairlike structure that
describe it? acts primarily as an
organelle of locomotion in
Flagella- hairlike structure the cells.
that acts primarily as an
organelle of locomotion in the
cells of many living
organisms. Flagellum is
primarily a motility organelle
that enables movement and
chemotaxis. Bacteria can have
one flagellum or several, and
they can be either polar (one
or several flagella at one spot)
or peritrichous (several flagella
all over the bacterium).

The last example is the

Pseudopods. Based on the
activity what is pseudopods Answer:
based on the structures of it or the extensions of the
how can you describe it? cytoplasm, or the thick
liquid that is inside
Pseudopods-are temporary organisms like amoeba.
projections of the cytoplasm of
a cell.  Pseudopodia are used
for locomotion and feeding in
amoeba and white blood cells.
The activation of the
polymerization of the actin
filaments forces the membrane
to extend and form
pseudopodia.

Application
Grouping and giving
directions.
Count 1 and 2, all number 1
stay this area and for group 2
in this area.
Directions: Using the
provided images of cell surface
modifications students will
play the “Penoy Henyo” where
each team/group will choose a
representative to play the
“Penoy Henyo” game. The team
who got the shortest time to
guess all the words will be the
winner.

The Cell surface

modifications are:
Cilia
Flagella
Pseudopods
Villi and Microvilli

Generalization
Cell specialization (or
modification or differentiation)
is actually a. process that
occurs after cell division where
the newly formed cells
are structurally modified so
that they can perform their
function efficiently and
effectively.

6. Evaluation Directions: Choose the letter

that best describes of the The students start
