Stewardship - Day 4
TOPIC: PROPORTIONAL (TYPES OR PARTS) OFFERINGS: SPIRITUAL LIFE AND CHURCH MISSION
Introduction
(Gen 4: 1-7).
- Offering was a central part of public worship during Israel Times
(Deut. 16:16)
- In those instances offering was a way of saying thank you to God
and not to please Him.
Human giving in all types of offering points to the fact that God is the owner of everything (Ps.:24;1)
In this study tonight, we will study three aspect of giving relating to the types of offerings.
1. Compulsory Offerings.
2. Freewill Offerings.
Num. 18:24 – All that was brought to the Lord were regarded as offerings (terumah).
Mal 3:8 – Distinguish between tithe (maaser) and Offering (terumah). Thus tithe is a fixed
proportional offering, but not all offerings are tithe.
If we look at how Proportionality appears in various situation in the relationship between God and His
people (Old & New Testament), acceptance of offerings (tithes) will be accepted according to what he
has and not according to what he does not have. (2 Cor. 8:12)
Note: THE PURPOSE OF ALL THESE MANDATORY OFFERINGS WAS NOT TO ACQUIRE DIVINE BLESSINGS
BUT TO ACKNOWLEDGE GOD AS THE OWNER AND CREATOR, AS WELL AS TO HAVE COMMUNION WITH
HIM BY THE REDEMPTIVE SIGNIFICANCE OF EACH OFFERINGS.
B) FREEWILL OFFERINGS
Under the quantitative aspect, freewill offerings are given this name because they should be voluntary.
