The Nature and Background of Hip-Hop Dance


Hip-hop dance is a street dance that has a broad category of styles such as breaking, locking, shuffling,
wacking , and popping. It became popular in the 1970’s performed by dance crews in the United States. Because of
its “freestyle,” trained dancers created choreography that was practiced both in studios and street or outdoor places.
The dance battles by different groups of dancers encourage students of all ages to participate in Hip-hop. Aside from
the energy that it gives to the youth. It also showcases the physical skills and talents of the dancers.

Tips in Hip-hop Dancing

Choose an upbeat music or song.


Make sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Feel relaxed before stepping on the dance floor.
Move the hips.
Keep practicing.
Watch dance tutorials/videos from the internet or television.
Take some dance lessons.

Precautionary Measures When Dancing

Do warm – up exercises at the start of the activity and cool down at the end.
Wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
Dance in a smooth and dry area to avoid being slipped.
Provide first aid kit and in the dance room for safety measures.

Benefits of Hip-hop Dance


Hip-hop dance is beneficial to health since it requires movement the entire time, the body takes in oxygen
that helps in burning helps in burning fat. It can be helpful to persons who like to lose weight. It reduces stress
because it is a form of entertainment. Dancing can also boost energy. It is best to practice with a healthy diet and
enough rest to make dancing more fun and enchanting.

Time to Reflect

Hip-hop dancing is a fun recreational activity that helps in toning muscles. It builds strength and makes the joints
more flexible. Keeping the proper movements will make the dance easier and provide not only physical benefits but
at the same time boost confidence and encourage fellowship among others.

The Concrete Finale

To enhance your dancing skills and abilities, you are going to make a HIP-HOP DANCE EXERCISE (not more
than 5 minutes) with complete elements of an exercise; warm-up, work-out proper, and cool down. You can choose
your own music and apply the different stretching and basic dance movements learned in the lesson. Record your
performance and submit a video file on a given date ( FEBRUARY 28, 2022).You can use your video of Hip-hop dance
exercise in your daily routine as it is a recreational activity that improves one’s health. ( a maximum of 10 students
per group.) SUBMIT YOUR PERFORMANCE TASK IN OUR GC MAPEH OUTPUTS

Your output will be graded based on the following standards: 50 pts

 Mastery of the movements – 15 pts


 Timing and Coordination - 15 pts
 Projection/Passion - 10 pts
 Stamina/Power/Energy - 10 pts
