Big U Scheme Rebuild by Design, an initiative of the Hurricane Sandy Rebuild Task Force and HUD, is aimed at addressing structural and environmental vulnerabilities
that Hurricane Sandy expose in communties throughout the region and developing fundable solutions to better protect residents from future climate
Flood Resilience events. We propose a protective system around Manhattan from W 54th street south to The Battery and up to East 40th street: 8 continous miles of
low-lying geography that comprise an incredibly dense, vibrant and vulnerable urban area. US infrastructure traditionally has not been civic or accessi-

Shanghai Houtan Park The objective of the park design was to: create a green Expo, accommodate for a large influx of visitors during the exposition
from May to October, demonstrate green technologies, transform a unique space to make the Expo an unforgettable event,
Pollution Remediation and transition into a permanent public waterfront park after the Expo.
Through the center of the park, a linear constructed wetland, 1.7 kilometers (one mile) long and 5- 30 meters (16.5 – 100

can be treated from Lower Grade V to Grade III. The treated water can be used safely throughout the Expo for non-potable
uses, and save half a million US dollars in comparison with conventional water treatment.
