ED 107 Technology for Teaching and Learning 1

•Cloud-based

(of digital data) stored, managed, and processed on a network of remote servers hosted on the internet,
rather than on local servers or personal computers.

•Peripheral device.

An input/output unit of a system that feeds data into and/or receives data from the central processing
unit of a digital device.

•GIS (Geographic Information System)

A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and
displaying data related to positions on Earth’s surface.

•Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

A technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a
regular (or analog) phone line.

•IP

stands for "Internet Protocol," which is the set of rules governing the format of data sent via the
internet or local network. In essence, IP addresses are the identifier that allows information to be sent
between devices on a network: they contain location information and make devices accessible for
communication.

Reflection:

Being able to define such words helped me to somewhat understand what is technological literacy. It
helped me to create a clear depiction on how things work within ICT. Reading comprehension depends
on vocabulary. Without understanding the meaning of the majority of the words, me, as a reader, I
cannot comprehend what I am reading. Children must acquire the definitions of new terms that are not
already a part of their speech vocabulary as they go to reading increasingly complex articles. In terms of
ICT, there are so many jargons which are unfamiliar to me for the fact that I am not fond of such
technical terms regarding it.
