Imageries in On Love From The Prophet By Khalil Gibran (1883-1931) LEBANON

And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may
wound you
And when he speaks to you believe in him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the
north wind lays waste the garden - This refers to God, who is represented by wings and
who is the source of both faith and love.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for
your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that
quiver in the sun, - This explains the nature of love in several ways on how to love and
care for people.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that
knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart. - The love he was referring to would
purposefully do such things to their souls. The idea of self-discovery is the sole focus of
this goal.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be
possessed; For love is sufficient unto love. - It recognizes the characteristics of spiritual
love. It is a thought that can stand on its own. Nothing can be taken from it save what is
already present. Additionally, it makes no demands. Only love may be taken from a soul
by this love. Love is what makes God complete as a result. Love has nothing to possess.

When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.”
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your
course - This whole thing is about how the spirituality of love may help you express love
more fully by being faithful and nurture humbleness in your heart.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must needs have desires, let
these be your desires: - It can be fulfilled by souls that nurture spiritual love. A person
must have wants in his heart to properly love. However, the goal should be to serve the
will of God.
