CELL ANALOGY
Learning Outcomes:
This activity should be able to:
1. Describe the structure and functions of animal and plant cells.

Instruction:
1. Imagine the cell is a small city. The various cell parts and organelles and family residents in that
city. These residents have their own unique job and function in the community. If you are the
mayor of the city, how would you introduce these residents? Write a brief speech of
introduction

In a small city which is called cell city, has a various family that resides within, where in I
am the mayor of the city, the nucleus. I am the commander in chief of the city. I store all the
data of the city, and maintain its integrity as I facilitate the transcription and replication of data
of the city. To furthermore know about my city, I will introduce the residents of my city and
their unique job and function within the community. Let’s start with the family residents that
supervise the security of the city, known as the plasma membrane family. Their job is to allow
only certain individuals to enter or leave the community so that it would protect from harm.
Next is the cytoplasm family, the cytoplasm family are responsible in supporting and holding
the components of my city and protects it from being damaged. The mitochondria family,
produces energy and stores energy for the whole city to carry each function. This is the vacuole
family, whom is responsible for the storage area of the city. The Rough endoplasmic reticulum
family, responsible of creation of goods for the city while their sub-family the Smooth
endoplasmic reticulum family, handles all the transportation of the created goods. Next is the
ribosome family, the ribosome family has factories of goods within my city. Let’s move on to
the Golgi family, they are the family that receive the created goods from the family of
endoplasmic reticulum. The Golgi family is responsible for packaging the created goods and
distribute it throughout the city. The Lysosome family, this family acts as the treatment of the
city. Then this is the cytoskeleton family, the family that is responsible on the structure
formation of the city. In my city, the cell wall family also resides within, they provide strength
and protection against stress within the community. The Plastids family, they handle the
manufacturing and storing of food of the city. And lastly, the centriole family, they are the
family that could guide you if you visit my city, they will help you determine my location, the
mayor of the city, and every family that resides in my city. And that is all the background of the
families that resides within my city and the mayor of it.
