Chapter IV

Results and Discussion

This chapter presents the results and discussion of the

study on the use of a mixture of lemongrass (Cymbopogon) and
Tabasco pepper as an ant repellent. Ants are a common
household pest, and many people often resort to using
pesticides to get rid of them. However, pesticides can be
harmful to humans and the environment. Therefore, there is a
need for effective, natural alternatives. Our study aims to
investigate the effectiveness of a mixture of lemongrass and
Tabasco pepper as a natural ant repellent.

Results:

The experiment was conducted using ten different

concentrations of the mixture of lemongrass and Tabasco
pepper. The results of the experiment showed that the
concentration of 90% of lemongrass and 10% of Tabasco pepper
to 10% of lemongrass and 90% of Tabasco pepper. The
concentration of 10% lemongrass and 90% Tabasco pepper was the
most effective in repelling ants. The data showed that the
number of ants significantly decreased when exposed to the
mixture.

Discussion:

The results of the study indicate that the mixture of

lemongrass and Tabasco pepper can be an effective natural ant
repellent. The concentration of 10% lemongrass and 90% Tabasco
pepper was found to be the most effective in repelling ants.
The effectiveness of the mixture can be attributed to the
presence of citral in lemongrass and capsaicin in Tabasco
pepper.

Lemongrass contains citral, which has been shown to have

insecticidal properties. It disrupts the nervous system of
insects and causes their death. Tabasco pepper contains
capsaicin, which is a natural irritant and repellent for many
insects. Capsaicin produces a burning sensation in the mouths
of insects and can cause them to avoid the treated area.

The effectiveness of the mixture of lemongrass and

Tabasco pepper as an ant repellent provides a natural and safe
alternative to using chemical pesticides. It is also cost-
effective as the ingredients are readily available in most
households. The mixture can be easily prepared by crushing
lemongrass and Tabasco pepper and mixing them with water. The
resulting mixture can then be sprayed in areas where ants are
likely to be found.

The results of the study suggest that the mixture of

lemongrass and Tabasco pepper can be an effective natural ant
repellent. The concentration of 10% lemongrass and 90% Tabasco
pepper was found to be the most effective in repelling ants.
The effectiveness of the mixture can be attributed to the
presence of citral in lemongrass and capsaicin in Tabasco
pepper. The use of natural alternatives like the mixture of
lemongrass and Tabasco pepper provides a safe and cost-
effective way to deal with ant infestations.
