NERVOUS SYSTEM!

EPLIEPSY, WHAT IS IT?

My chosen disease is Epilepsy.

It is a central nervous system (neurological) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal,
causing seizures or periods of unusual behaviour, sensations and sometimes loss of
awareness.

SYMPTOMS:
● loss of consciousness
● Weakness
● Anxiety
● staring or zoning out
● confused speech
● muscle jerking/contractions

CURE & PREVENTIONS:

Altho epilepsy can’t be cured An estimated 25% of epilepsy cases are potentially preventable.
Epilepsy preventions include removing the risk of head injury, for example by reducing falls,
traffic accidents and sports injuries.

TECHNOLOGICAL DIAGNOSES:
The technology that assists in the detection and diagnosis of epilepsy is a test called
Electroencephalogram or EEG. In this test, electrodes are attached to your scalp with a paste-
like substance or cap. The electrodes record the electrical activity of your brain.

ADVANTAGES:
One big advantage of the EEG test is the ability to see brain activity as it unfolds in real-time, at
the level of milliseconds.

DISADVANTAGES:
One big disadvantage of the EEG test is that it's hard to figure out where in the brain the
electrical activity is coming from so it's not very precise.
