Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines

Sometimes loving someone comes unexpectedly just like lightning, you will never
know when it could strike band how long it could last. In the “Tonight I Can Write the
Saddest Lines” published in the year 1924 written by Pablo Neruda expressing
bittersweet sentiment of his love story. That night he reminisced all the feelings he had
with her and how sometimes she loved him and other times he loved her, but that love
was not enough for her to stay with him. Moving on was the hardest part of loving her,
no time can replace the feelings he had when they were together. This is where the
realization came that ‘love is short, forgetting so long.’
The poem's speaker lost his lifelong love. From the first stanza of the poem which
can tell that some time has already passed since their separation. He says “tonight I can
write” he describes the night where he express his feelings with the winds revolves in the
sky and sings, appreciating how the night is starry and how the stars are blue and shiver
from distance. His memories takes him back when they are still together holding each
other arms, and telling how one could not have loved her great still eyes that says anyone
can fall in love with her. He feels that he can write the saddest lines that night as he
knows that she is no longer with him. As the lines continues the speaker emphasizes his
loss and sadness. He employs imagery and repetition to draw at the reader's
heartstrings.
He claims that love is fleeting, but forgetting lasts a lifetime. This is one of the
poem's most well-known lines. And the nights aren't making it any easier for him to
forget. Evenings like the one that day remind him of the time when he was holding her.
And when these thoughts passed through his mind, his spirit was displeased with the
fact that he had lost her. In these last sentences “Though this be the last pain that she
makes me suffer and these the last verses that I write for her.” It indicates that even it
is difficult it is time to move on, even if he do not want to but he needed only to let her
go and bear the anguish of losing her entirely, in order to find someone else who would
make him happier and more loved than he had ever been before. He was attempting to
set them both free with the help poetry, and that this would be the last time she could
ever hurt him.
