1. What is ethernet cable?


- Ethernet cables are a type of network cable. They are designed to work with Ethernet ports.
Ethernet ports can be found on routers, computers, TVs and most internet and network-
enabled devices.

2. What are the two types of Twisted Pair Cable?

- Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) – generally comprise wires and insulators

- Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) – cable with braided, wired mesh that encases each pair of insulated
copper wires.

3. What are two types/forms in Twisted Pair Cable in wiring?

- Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)

- Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)

4. What is the difference between straight through and crossover cable?

- Connecting 2 devices of different types together, you use a straight through cable. On the other
hand, when connecting two devices who are the same type, you use a crossover cable.

5. Give definition of each of the terms

Modem – a device that transforms signals produced by one type of device to a form compatible with
another. It is used to transmit and receive information between computers.

Router – a device that passes data packets between two or more packet-switched computer networks.

Switch - A network switch connects devices in a network to each other, enabling them to talk by
exchanging data packets. Switches can be hardware devices that manage physical networks or
software-based virtual devices.
