The 31st of December:it’s New Year’s Eve.

In Hungary people usually celebrate it with


parties and fireworks at midnight.
The 1st of January is New Year’s Day.It’s a national holiday.
The 15th of March: We commemorate the Hungarian Revolution and war of Independence
of 1848.
Easter: It’s a moving holiday.Big Friday became a national holiday a few years ago.On this
day Christians commemorate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
At Easter we usually have the traditional ham and eggs.On the second day of Easter boys
sprinkle the girls.It’s a Hungarian tradition.
The 1st of May: It’s Labour Day.It’s also a national holiday.There is no school and the shops
are also closed.
The first Sunday of May: Mother’s day.People usually buy some flowers for their mothers
and grandmothers.
Pentecost(Pünkösd): It's also a moving holiday. Pentecost Sunday is 50 days after
Easter.The Holy Spirit appeared to the apostles.
The 20th of August: We commemorate of tKing Stephen, the first who established
Hungary.
The 6th of October: On this day in 1849 thirteen captains and leaders of the Revolution and
War of Independence were executed in Arad.
The 23rd of October: We commemorate the Revolution of 1956 and Hungary became a
Republic on this day in 1989.
The 1st of November is All Saints’ Day.We go to the cemeteries and light a candle for our
loved ones.
Christmas: On the 24th of December is Holy Night.The families decorate the Christmas
trees together.We usually buy some presents for our loved ones.There is a special menu at
Christmas we usually have fish soup,stuffed cabbage and poppy seed cake.
On the 25th and 26th of December (which is called Christmas Day=25th; Boxing Day=26th)
we usually visit our relatives and friends and eat some more stuffed cabbage! :-)
