Configuring WCDMA-GSM RF Sharing Cabling RF sharing configurations

1 Cabling RF sharing configurations

1.1 Principles of connecting RF Sharing with GSM and

WCDMA
Use the same port number in GSM and WCDMA System Modules. When GSM is the
radio slave, it is responsible for detecting that the port number is the same and indicating
a misconfiguration with an alarm.

Connection rules for shared RF(s)

• It is recommended that you connect the first shared RF to OPT1 (ESMB/C, FSME).
• It is recommended that you connect the second shared RF to OPT2 (ESMB/C,
FSME).
• In case secondary RP3-01 links are needed for WCDMA, connect them to OPT3
and OPT5.

g Do not use the EXT1 port of the FSME for any RFs. If shared RF(s) are present then
OPT4 on ESMB/C must be linked to OPT4/EXT1 on the FSME.

2 Activating RAN1770 / BSS21452 using BTS

Site Manager
Follow this procedure to activate the features for Concurrent Mode RAN1770: RF
Sharing WCDMA-GSM, and BSS21452: RF Sharing WCDMA-GSM.

Before you start

The BTS should be already commissioned to dedicated mode. The BTS Site Manager
(BTSSM) can be connected to the BTS either locally or remotely.
The following conditions apply in the GSM-WCDMA sharing mode:
• Flexi Multiradio WCDMA System Module operates as synchronization master by
default and provides synchronization source to the GSM/EDGE System Module.
• Flexi Multiradio WCDMA System Module operates as radio master for different radio
modules by default.

g Note that the commissioning procedure of Flexi Multiradio GSM/EDGE System Module
is required after commissioning the WCDMA System Module.

Steps

1 Perform the necessary HW installation and cabling.

See Cabling RF sharing configurations for cabling examples.

2 Start the WCDMA BTS Site Manager application and establish the connection to
the BTS.

3 Upload the configuration plan file from the BTS.

When BTSSM is connected to the BTS, it automatically uploads the current configura-
tion plan file from the BTS.
• Select “View j Commissioning” or click Commissioning on the View bar.

4 In the Commissioning - Introduction page, select ‘BTS’ as target and choose the
Reconfiguration option under Commissioning type.
Click Next to continue to BTS Settings page.
In the BTS Settings page note that the ESMx System Module is detected and it can be
seen under Module locations as well as the Equipment view. See figure below.

optional fields.
The Shared with 2G check box is enabled if the RF Module supports FSM/EDGE. Note
that if RF sharing enabled check box is selected at least one of the RF Modules support-
ing 2G must be selected as shared RF Module. Shared RF Module must be physically
connected to the same interface (RP3 interface) in both technology System Modules.

Site Manager
Follow this procedure to activate the features for Concurrent Mode RAN1770: RF
Sharing WCDMA-GSM, and BSS21452: RF Sharing WCDMA-GSM.
In this case WCDMA is added to existing GSM site.

Before you start

The GSM BTS is already commissioned. The BTS Site Manager (BTSSM) can be con-
nected to the BTS either locally or remotely.
The following conditions apply in the GSM-WCDMA sharing mode:
• Flexi Multiradio WCDMA System Module operates as synchronization master by
default and provides synchronization source to the GSM/EDGE System Module.
• Flexi Multiradio WCDMA System Module operates as radio master for different radio
modules by default.

g Note that the commissioning procedure of Flexi Multiradio WCDMA System Module is
required after commissioning the GSM/EDGE System Module.

Steps

1 Start the 2G Flexi BTS Site Manager application and establish the connection to
the BTS.

2 Perform the necessary HW installation and cabling.

See Cabling RF sharing configurations for cabling examples.

3 Update the SW in WCDMA System Module.

After the SW update is finished uncommission GSM BTS without removing bypass
capacity if it exists. See figure below.

5 Reset WCDMA BTS Site with WCDMA BTS Site Manager.

See figure below. When RFMs are detected and the RFM SW version is different from
the WCDMA SW package ‘Incompatible SW version detected’ fault is activated. To clear
this alarm a new WCDMA BTS SW download is required with BTSSM or NetAct will
trigger the SW download automatically if TRS is already commissioned.
