    Cold-Blooded Animal Painting Artist Statement

    Tarantula mayhem
    I chose a tarantula for my cold blooded animal and I picked this cold blooded animal to convey
    that not all spiders are scary. I want my viewers to convey that spiders can be presented in
    different ways. My artwork looks like a tarantula with sand plastered on a puzzle piece. The setting
    is like a silly more fun opening.I used acrylic colors mostly warm colors and mixed it to make
    darker or lighter shades with black and white. My biggest decision for the artwork was to outline
    the spider with a white layer then cover it with a sand color to make it really pop since it’s a light
    color. I learned that you have to have a white base under a light color that you want painted. For
    example, my sandy color around the tarantula has a white base to make sure the sandy color pops
    out.Finding this technique out it will for sure be something I use in the future if I’m in the same
    situation.
