Objectives:

Students will understand the process of photosynthesis and its importance.


Students will be able to identify the necessary components for photosynthesis to occur.
Students will be able to explain the role of chlorophyll in photosynthesis.
Materials:

PowerPoint presentation
Photosynthesis diagram handout
Elodea plants
Water
Light source
Glass beakers
Procedure:

Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin the class with a discussion on the importance of plants in our ecosystem.
Ask the students if they know how plants create their food.
Presentation (25 minutes)
Use the PowerPoint presentation to explain the process of photosynthesis and its importance.
Highlight the role of chlorophyll in photosynthesis.
Provide a diagram of the process of photosynthesis and explain each step.
Allow time for questions.
Lab Activity (30 minutes)
Divide the students into groups.
Provide each group with an Elodea plant, a glass beaker, water, and a light source.
Instruct students to place the Elodea plant in the beaker with water and expose it to light.
Ask students to observe the Elodea plant and record their observations.
Instruct students to identify the necessary components for photosynthesis to occur.
Allow time for questions and discussion.
Conclusion (5 minutes)
Ask the students to summarize what they have learned about photosynthesis.
Provide an opportunity for students to share their observations and conclusions.
