Tools and Utensils Needed in Preparing Sandwiches
Mise en Place- a French term- it is a culinary process in which ingredients, tools and equipments needed
should be prepared in an organized manner. Everything must be in its place before cooking. The advantage of
having Mise en Place is that it can save our time and energy when cooking.
The following are the tools and utensils needed in preparing sandwiches.
Tools and Utensils
1. SANDWICH SPATULA- a small thin, circular bladed utensil with a saw- like notches or teeth in one
side and smooth on the other, resembling a round spatula. It's a tool for spreading food spreads on
bread slices.
2. SPATULA- a long flexible blade with a rounded end that is used to level ingredients in measuring cups
and spoons, as well as to spread fillings on sandwiches.
3. BUTTER KNIFE- a small knife with a blunt edge for spreading spreads like butter, peanut butter, and
cream cheese on bread or dinner rolls.
4. DELI KNIFE- this knife is made to cut easily and quickly through a variety of sandwich ingredients and
is built for thick sandwiches.
5. LETTUCE KNIFE- a plastic knife with a serrated edge that is designed to slice lettuce without browning
the edges. It works well for slicing lettuce.
6. SANDWICH KNIFE- a kitchen utensil with a sharp blade for slicing a medium amount of food
ingredients "sandwiched" between two slices of bread.
7. SERRATED KNIFE- a knife with saw-like notches or teeth on the sharp tip. A serrated knife has a
blade that is 5 to 10 inches long and is used to slice through food that is hard on the outside but soft on
the inside, such as bread crusts.
8. MIXING BOWL- Big size bowls to carry ingredients when they're being mixed
9. RUBBER SCRAPER- it is used scrape down the sides of the bowl with a pliable rubber scraper to
remove the mixture of fillings from the pans.
10. MEASURING SPOONS- a variety of small measuring spoons for measuring small amounts of
ingredients.
