Map in Power BI

Select Orders Data from sample superstore.

Click on Map

Drag and drop state into location.

Sales into size.

California has higher sales.

Add Legend: region to legend.

Sometimes we may not get map created. That might be because you have a different name
for state or country as state65 country-35 or so

Then we have to select the existing field and in the toolbar we need to check the data
category and select the appropriate.

Filled Map

Filled map conveys information better:

Click on Filled Map

Drag and drop state into location.

Profit into legend.

As profit is numeric field which is not appropriate.

Drag and drop region to legend.

If we want to give colour to each state .remove region.

Drag states to legend to see region and state as well.

If we want to see profit .Drag and drop profit to tooltip.

Combining Pie and map together:

Drag and drop map

State into location

Region into legend.

Click format and increase size of bubble

I want to see which state is having category wise distribution.

Drag category into legend.

3 colours give about category.

Drag sales into size.

Formatting In Map

Drag and drop states to chart and sales to chart.

If i want to format for background change and so.

Click on format

Change colour for bubbles.

Click on show all and change colour for each state.

If I don’t want for other state we can disable show all.

Click on enable category to see names of states.

Expand category and increase and play around.

In Bubbles we can change size of bubble.

We have to double click on zoom

Click on map control enable auto zoom

Click on border and select format again for page formatting.

Select tooltip and adjust for options.

Background in Power BI Maps

Click on Map

Drag and drop state into location.

Sales into size.

I need to change blue colour in map to something.

Click on format:

Click on map style and change there to aerial.

Create Map of India in Power BI

Click on get data and select states and UT excel.

Drag state from new field into chart

Perform same options as previous.

To get filled map select filled map drag state to location and population to legend.

Other way to create map from data

We are not loading data from get data in toolbar.

From the same excel we have Australia data from sheet 2 .copy data.

Click on enter data in toolbar of Power bi.

Paste the data in create table window. And name it as Australia states.

Please be aware this data in not connected to excel it is residing in power bi.

Once loaded we can see the table at fields.

Drag state to canvas and also see as filled map and other options as previous.
