1. For my model, I experienced some different emotions, mostly stress. I experienced
stress because I didn't have the proper materials that I needed, and I was not prepared
for that day. I had to use a protractor because at the bottom of it is a tiny ruler that is six
in long. By using that, I calculated the right amount, size, and distance of the planets.
Roughly one foot was 708 ft. I multiplied that by 12 and I got 8496 ft. I didn't have
enough paper for that long, so I scaled it down to a smaller size but kept the same scale.
For coloring, I used watercolors. I wanted to have the sun be over a foot, so I thought the
best idea was to have the sun be two feet. I chose this scale because I wanted to make
sure that everyone could see the smaller planets like mercury. Other problems I
encountered with my model were tears in the paper and not having enough room in my
house to do my project.
2. I was very surprised to learn how small the Earth is compared to the Sun. From on the
Earth, the sun looks as big as a Plato container. But millions of miles away, it’s
thousands of times bigger than Earth, probably even more than that. When I saw how far
Pluto was from the Sun, it really shocked me because I never knew how big our solar
system was, especially when Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars were closer than Pluto.
3. Some of the advantages of building a scaled model was putting the model into a  size
where our brains could comprehend as much as a human brain can. From seeing how
small mercury is to seeing how large Jupiter is, using a scale made this easier. Some of
the disadvantages are if you have a big scale for the solar system, you may have to
scale it down to the billions just to find out what the size is. Throughout that process, you
could make a lot of mistakes like calculating how far away the sun is from Pluto or how
big Jupiter is supposed to be.
