Next Sunday is the beginning of
Holy Week– the most sacred time of
out Church year. The blessing and
distribution of palms will be done at all of the Masses. At the
11:30 am Mass, we will be joining with St. Austin's Church
for the blessing of palms and procession. We will meet in the
courtyard in front of the Harry Ransom Center across 21st
Street, bless the palms and listen to the gospel of Jesus' entry
into Jerusalem, and then process to our prospective worship
spaces: St. Austin's community going to their church, and we,
going to the UCC. Please join us for this beautiful way of
entering into Holy Week.
The story of the raising of Lazarus from the dead is the single
longest story (apart from the Passion) in the Gospel of John. In
it we find a summary of most of Jesus’ ministry. We see his
very human nature as he is moved by Martha and Mary’s sor-
rows and as he himself weeps at the tomb of Lazarus. He is the
wisdom of God’s Word made flesh as he explains to his fol-
lowers that the death of Lazarus will serve as a sign of the
glory of God. He crowns the miracles he works in John’s Gos-
pel (which began with the most “human” miracle of making
new wine at Cana’s wedding) by raising Lazarus from the
dead—a “preview,” if you will, of his own death and resurrec-
tion to come. This portrait of Jesus reminds us, as we near the
end of our Lenten journey, that he is with us, knows us, under-
stands us in every moment of our lives. He knows the joy of
our human feasting, he knows the sorrow of our weeping. As
we prepare to walk with him through the days of Holy Week,
we are filled with faith that—through Christ—God’s glory
will be with us in every moment of our lives and—with

UCC Marriage
Prep Workshop
The Spring UCC Marriage Preparation
Workshop will be held March 28-29.
Volunteers are needed for hospitality
and food preparation (lasagnas, salad
and bread for Friday evening dinner
and continental breakfast items, along
with juice and fruit for Saturday
morning). A sign-up sheet can be
found at the front desk. Welcoming
letters for the participating couples
from “established” married couples are

Compass Bible Study!
Meeting on Thursday nights
from 7-8 pm in the Mother
Teresa Room, Compass is a
fun and laid-back way to read scripture
and get a little more out of Mass.
Every week we spend an hour discuss-
ing the next Sunday’s readings and
sharing our faith. We are student run,
student led, and totally low time com-
mitment, so drop by whenever you can.
