One Agricultural Organization
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United
Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Our goal is to achieve food
security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality
food to lead active, healthy lives.
The Impact On Agriculture
FAO helps ensure food security by developing ways of growing food that will
work in the future so that millions of people don't go hungry. Good health starts
with nutrition. FAO sets global standards and works with governments and the private
sector to ensure food quality and safety throughout the food chain.
1. Codex Alimentarius (established in 1963)

food trade. The Codex Alimentarius ensures, SAFE
food and GOOD food for EVERYONE

2. Eradication (established in 1974 - 2002)

launched a programme in 11 COUNTRIES.

prevented the infection of 40 MILLION PEOPLE at risk.

4. Committee On World Food Security (CFS)
(established in 1974)

The CFS is the MAIN FORUM FOR DIALOGUE ON FOOD


SECURITY & NUTRITION

1974- The Committee on World Food Security was born.

2009 The CFS is reformed as a MULTISECTOR PLATFORM


open to CIVIL SOCIETY and to the PRIVATE SECTOR.

The CFS reports to the UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY and holds


its annual plenary session at FAO
5. The Fight Against Hunger In Latin
America And The Caribbean

(established in 1990 – 2014)

In 25 years, THE LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN REGION halved the
number of hungry 1990 14.7% AND 2014 5.5%

This was achieved by strengthening political commitment to ensure AVAILABILITY


of food, facilitate ACCESS to food, and promote NUTRITIONAL wellbeing.

of land, fishers and forests.
The guidelines are the GLOBAL REFERENCE for governance of tenure of
NATURAL RESOURCES
The Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of
LAND, FISHERIES and FORESTS were adopted in 2012

FISHERIES
THE PORT STATE MEASURES AGREEMENT

To protect NATURAL RESOURCES:
