Activity 3: LEFT A TRACE

From your observation, whether first hand or from other sources (news, documentary show,
narrated by friend, etc), which among the Leave No Trace Seven Principles is usually not being
observed in the Philippines? Explain your answer. You may cut and post a news article or a
personal picture to back up your explanation.

Based on news reports and personal accounts, one of the Leave No Trace Seven
Principles that is often not being observed in the Philippines is "Dispose of Waste Properly."
Improper waste disposal is a major environmental issue in the country, with plastic waste being
a significant contributor to pollution in waterways and coastal areas.
According to a report by the Manila Bulletin, the Philippines generates 2.7 million tons of
plastic waste annually, with 20% of it ending up in the ocean. This problem is exacerbated by
the lack of proper waste management systems and infrastructure, as well as the improper
behavior of some individuals who do not dispose of their waste properly.
In addition, during my research, I also found a personal picture shared by a Filipino hiker
on social media, showing trash left behind by other hikers on a trail. This kind of behavior not
only violates the Leave No Trace principle but also contributes to the degradation of the natural
environment.
Overall, proper waste disposal is crucial in preserving the natural environment and
should be a priority for all individuals, organizations, and the government in the Philippines.
