Background
Every student has desire to have profession, a job career or occupation after school.
These are various occupations in life and everyone must make a decision about which
one to peruse. It is important to know about these careers before choosing one.

Part A
1. Occupation
Occupation is a general term that refers to the field or industry you are part of or the work
you are interested in.

2. Five occupations and how each of them helps the community.

i) A Doctor

The primary duty of all doctors is for the care and safety of patients. This is how the doctors
help the community.
- Saving life: mostly this occurs during the event for an emergence procedure or an elective
procedure for a rather time sensitive serious illness. An accidental injury and troubled
labour also account for the same.

- Extending life: unfortunately, not every illness can be cured completely, but with the effort
of doctors, therapies and medicines, the lifespan of the patient or the onset of the illness
can be extended significantly though this time varies greatly from case to case and from
patient to patient, the efforts behind the cause are commendable.
ii) A Teacher
Teachers are important because they change lives, inspire dreams and push the limits
of human potential. A teacher’s job is to nature teach and raise children to become
useful in the society. A teacher helps the community by:

- Tutor: teaches children and have a great influence on the formation of their ethical

The duty of a lawyer in a criminal case is a dual one. He or she must defend his/her
client completely and conscientiously, but they must also uphold and advance the
interests of justice. His duty to his or her client is to be balanced against his/her duty
to promote interests of justice. It is the duty of every defence lawyer to try to ensure
that his/her client receives a fair trial and that the other fundamental constituents’
rights of his/her clients are not violet.
A lawyer is also a client representative or a neutral third party, a law enforcement
officer and a public citizen with special responsibility for the quality of justice. You
would not have anyone with lawyers to protect you from the abuse of law.

How lawyers help in the community

Security : attorneys offer people a sense of comfort when following their goals in life
believing that if they need help someone will have to back lawyers play a critical role
in promoting social peace and applying the law in a way that reacts to the basic

Background
It has been noted that most of the learners have obsession of eating junk foods which may
affect their health

PART A
1. Two types of junk foods are

• BURGERS: these foods contain a lot of fat and oils and may cause obesity if
eaten uncontrollably
• CAKES: cakes contain a lot of sugar in them which may cause disabilities

the fat occupies space the blood will be moving at a high speed and a person will
have high temperature and difficulties in breathing
- Can have diabetes

PART B

ALL MAJOR NUTRIENTS NEEDED BY THE HUMAN BODY

NUTRIENT FUNCTION

Carbohydrates Provide energy

Protein Needed by the body for growth. It helps in

the building and repair of body cells

Vitamins Help in the formation of body parts such as

teeth, hair, skin and nails. Helps prevent
diseases like scurvy.

Fats Provide energy and help keep the body

temperature normal

Minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, Help in the formation of body tissues. Help
potassium, zinc prevent diseases like goiter and anemia

Water Water makes up 60% of the body weight. It

dilutes waste substances and poison in the
body. It also helps in regulating body
temperature, lubricates joints and moistens
the mouth, eye and nose tissues
Fiber/roughage It is not digested and helps remove waste
from the digestive system
3. How food portions per meal can contribute to the effectiveness of a balanced diet

Managing portions will help to end cramping and bloating after eating. Balanced
blood sugar. Overheating can lead to a blood sugar imbalance by overloading your
body with glucose: which can eventually lead to insulin resistance. Smaller meals will
help keep your body functioning properly.

SUBTOPIC: CONFLICT AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

CALA TITLE: INTRA-PERSONAL CONFLICT

CALA TYPE: PEN AND PAPER

COMPETENCES/SKILLS: Problem solving, Critical Thinking, Communication,

Innovation, Public speaking, Researching.

Background
It has been noted that learners have little knowledge of intra personal conflicts, causes, effects
and ways of managing them.

Part A
1. Intra means within and conflict means to clash. Intra personal conflicts are clashes
that occur within a person.

2. Five situations that may cause intra-personal conflicts

a) Emotional sources for example frustration as a result of lack of protection - when one
is not protected well he/she will have stress where they should go and what they
should do.

b) Environmental sources for example natural disasters like floods or drought

-
If these things occur when someone was hoping for a better future it can lead to
intra-personal conflict when the person is not knowing what to do or where to
start.
c) Physical sources for example abuse by parents or relatives
- When one is abused, they are often told to keep quite or never tell anyone or else
they will be harmed. This leads to intra-personal conflicts when the person doesn’t
know what to do or wants to do something or cannot.
d) Death in a family, job loss or divorce
- When a person dies it mostly causes intra-personal conflicts when the bereaved is
not knowing what to do. In the event of a job loss a person wont know how to
take care of the family and these can lead to intra-personal conflicts. When there
is a divorce, it is likely for the children to choose between the two parents and the
children then have intra-personal conflicts.

that take place thinking when that case is going to end.

c) It can result in diseases like heart attacks, stroke and others

- When a person can’t handle the stress, he/she may suffer from chronic diseases.
E.g., hypertension

d) Can lead a person to committing suicide

- When a person thinks there are no more possible solutions to his or her situation,
they commit suicide.

e) May lead to drug and substance abuse

- This is taking illegal drugs and overuse of alcohol and over the counter drugs.
When a person can’t handle the situation, he/she takes drugs to calm the
situation.

3. MANAGING INTRA-PERSONAL CONFLICTS

a) Critical thinking- refers to thinking deeply and carefully about something before one
makes a decision. It involves going through a problem thoroughly before one makes a
judgement on how to solve a problem.
b) Decision making - means the ability to make good choices in life. When making a
decision, choose a best option you will never regret later.
c) Analytical thinking- this is the step-by-step approach to thinking that allows you to
break down problems into single and manageable components
