INTRODUCTION

In the current information age, educational institutions are expected to play a crucial role as the engine for
knowledge generation and learning environment. In this regard, Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
becomes the vital means to facilitate this task. ICT has become an essential part of our everyday life.

Diba tayo nga, correct me if I'm wrong but we spent 8 hours or more per day in using ICT. From the moment we wake
up in the morning hanggang sa pagtulog natin sa gabi, we use ICT.

And its integration in education is inevitable and cannot be avoided. This is due to the fact that using ICT in education
has become one of the most effective factors in school improvement not only for the purpose of teaching and
learning, but also for administrative use.

Purposes of ICT
Primarily ICT is used for faster and easier communication. But here are the 5 other purposes of ICT. The first one is.

ICT for Entertainment.

ICT for Business Transactions including banking and financial

services

ICT for Governance

when our government embarked on its massive transformation program driven by ICT, many of the public services,
state and even local council levels have become available through online or ICT dependent facilities. Today we can
renew our professional licenses online, we can file our request for our PSA Birth certificate online and enjoy fast
door-to-door delivery nationwide, and we can even verify our GSIS balance online or at an electronic kiosk.

ICT in Healthcare Services.

ICT in Education

ICT applications in education may be used for various purposes. It may be used for effective teaching-learning
processes to achieve quality education and overall development of students or for administrative purposes by
teachers, staff and management team.

Benefits of ICT in administration

1. ICT makes multi-tasking easy

The tools and applications of ICT are the new modes of enabling multi-stakeholders’ participation in policy making.
They have helped in achieving citizens’ engagement in policy deliberation and implementation process. Also, instant
access to information and forms of communication enables us to quickly switch from one task to the next

2. Lower administrative costs;

Lower administrative costs; enable appropriate responses to requests and queries; provide access to all departments
and levels of government; foster a better governance capability; and facilitate the government-to-business interface.

3. Data processing and problem solving

Help solve the centralization/decentralization problem, by making relevant data easily accessible at all government
levels; facilitating budget analysis and programming; improving the timeliness of budget information.
4. Easy Record access and keeping

Help simplify bureaucracy; break down barriers between functional domains; allow public services to be reoriented
to solving clients’ problems; develop new forms for citizen participation; make government more accountable. Enable
governments and government departments to integrate information; information trading may be used as a public
service.

5. ICT encourage innovations

Local agencies today encourage innovations after observing related the impact of technology to their communities
because they are closer to the public, community groups, and business.

6. Institutional development

Institutional development has been introduced through ICT and making a long-term process for easier planning,
management and effective delivery. ICT creates organizational innovation, easy communication for administrative
and supervisory support through electronic delivery.

7. Effective stakeholders' alliance through ICT

An effective alliance between internal and external stakeholders has been established through ICT thus introducing
partnerships among administrators, supervisors, teachers, students, parents, Local Government Unit, Non
Government Organizations and other public agencies.

8. School ICT-based services

As we all know, Schools use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage
information. Using ICT in education has become a very effective factor that involves in school improvement. Pag
sinabi po natin na school improvement, hindi lang po ito tungkol sa teaching learning processes, but also the
administrative processes within the school too. Administration in a school is the strand that creates and fosters an
effective learning environment for students. Some schools are lagging behind in their quest of obtaining competent
and recognized outcomes of education due to many reasons. One of those reasons is the Failure in using ICT for the
purpose of efficient school administration. In this case, ICT is rarely used for school administration purposes. Instead,
they use traditional methods to perform the duties assigned to school administrators. So ano yung mga nagigign
result nito… school process are delayed, minsan the information is accurate, another is no proper information
dissemination, and so on.

9. ICT aids in decision-making and planning

The greatest managerial advantage of modern technology is that it offers an opportunity for the principals and school
leaders to engage in true data-based decision-making. New technologies can be used to plan and make decisions on
the basis of accurate and readily available facts provided or computed by ICT. Tayo ngang mga teachers, kapag
aalamin natin kung sinong learner ang mas magaling sa isang subject diba we use their quarterly grade as our basis
for us to decide whether or not this learner should be the contestant for BOW. Kasi base doon sa grades nila
malalaman natin kung nagpeperform ba ng above average yung learner doon sa subject.

Also, a study conducted by Visscher (1995) reveals that the schools can use ICT for the purpose of policy making. First
the administrators should be able to decide which information they need for decision making and then they can
retrieve that data through ICT. Thereafter they can interpret the retrieved data in order to use the resulting
information for decision-making and then use the information to develop, implement and evaluate school policy.
