Laboratory Description
This lab will allow students the opportunity to develop and assess sterile compounding skills and
knowledge. Students will get hands-on experience with multiple steps associated with sterile product
compounding, including equipment, attire, and manipulation of products. Students will also complete
virtual compounding activities in an online virtual cleanroom environment.
Learning Objectives
After completion of this lab, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate appropriate sterile compounding garbing procedures
2. Demonstrate correct handwashing technique
3. Demonstrate understanding of sterile product compounding
4. Understand the basic procedures required in a sterile compounding environment
Laboratory Procedure
During the lab week, students will complete hands-on sterile product compounding of one product.
Students will also complete activities within the virtual cleanroom online program and answer
questions on the associated worksheet.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on completion of the in-person activity and virtual cleanroom worksheet
and submission of their pre and post-lab surveys. Successful completion of these activities is
contingent upon completion and review of pre-lab materials and videos.

Rubrics” – this rubric will be used to evaluate your performance in lab.
Of note, there will be minimal discussion of these pre-lab materials during lab. Students are
expected to review the information before lab and be prepared to complete the lab stations
once lab has begun.
Students may begin working on the sterile product compounding worksheet in advance of their
lab. However, please note that the virtual cleanroom program requires a significant amount of
processing power and it is suggested that a desktop or computer lab computer is used for the
activities.
Extra Information
Students may dress casually for this lab; white coats are not required. Students should wear pants for
lab and flat, closed-toed shoes. Students are encouraged to wear t-shirts and layers as you will wear
gowns for one of the stations.

8. Assess compounded sterile products for product accuracy

Students will also complete activities within the virtual cleanroom online program and answer
questions on the associated worksheet. Finally, students will complete a product verification quiz.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on completion of the in-person activity and virtual cleanroom worksheet,
accuracy of product verification quiz, and submission of their pre and post-lab surveys. Successful
completion of these activities is contingent upon completion and review of pre-lab materials and
videos.
