The University of Sunderland, situated in the UK, aims to


make a difference, create, and nurture an inclusive
environment where students from all backgrounded
can flourish. In 2017, it received a Silver Teaching
Excellence Framework (TEF) rating. It has a graduate

student satisfaction rate of 84%. It has associations

Courses Offered

What all courses are available to international


students?

The university offers a broad range of courses under


its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
through different modes, such as part-time, full-time,
and online. It has distance learning facilities for
undergraduate and postgraduate students. The
university offers a four-year integrated foundation
degree, which is integrated with an honours degree
course, like Screen Performance, Forensic
Psychology, Social Media Management, Tourism,
Aviation, Business, and Economics. Students can also
choose additional or top-up courses in various fields
like Business, Law, Art and Creative Industries,
Tourism, Engineering, Health Science, and Well-being.
Other than that, the university offers more than 50
undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Art,
Engineering, Social Science, Hospitality, Law,
Psychology, Nursing, and Medicine.

Eligibility & Documents Required

What are the eligibility requirements?

The university has programme and course-specific


requirements, thus, course or major will have separate
academic requirements at all levels. However, in
general, the university expects international students
to have these basic qualifications:

Undergraduate candidates: High school certificate


or diploma with a score of a minimum of 75-90% or
higher in Grade 12.
Postgraduate candidates: A first-class
undergraduate degree from a recognised institution
or its local equivalent.
MBA candidates: A three-year bachelor’s degree in
relevant field with at least 50-55%.

English Language Proficiency

If an international candidate is applying to the


university from a country where English is not the first
language, then they are required to qualify in any of
the given examinations as a prerequisite to secure
admission at the university.

Application & Tuition Fees

Is there any application fees?

All undergraduate applicants need to pay a non-


refundable application fee while applying through the
UCAS portal. UCAS charges GBP 20 for one courses
and GBP 26 for two or more courses. There is no
application fee for postgraduate admissions unless
applying through UCAS, such as a few medical or
nursing courses.

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the


university?

The university has estimated the following range of

Note: The tuition fee tends to change every year and


some additional costs might be included. It is
recommended that the students visit the university
website for fee structure for the current academic year.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available


for international students?

The university has limited financial aid or scholarships


options. International students receive a fee discount
which usually ranges from GBP 1,000 for PG
applicants to GBP 1,500 for UG applicants. All
international students are eligible for this discount and
no separate application is required. Apart from this,
full-time MBChB (Home Medicine) students will get an
accommodation grant, travel scholarship, and cash
scholarship. Performance-based scholarships are also
offered to international students after they have
completed their first year at the university.

Admission Process

When do the admissions start?

The university opens for admission in the Fall and


Spring semesters. However, most of the UG
programmes are offered in the fall semester only. The
application deadlines are usually programme or
course-specific. UG applicants can follow these UCAS

International undergraduate applicants need to apply

How to apply to PG courses?

International postgraduate applicants can apply


directly to the university using its online application
portal. However, for some countries the university
accepts application through representatives only, such
as India. Indian aspirants can follow these steps to
contact the university representatives:

When will I hear from the university after I submit


my application?

The university releases UG decisions as per the set


timeline of UCAS portal. Students can track their
application status on the portal as well. PG decisions
can take up to four to six weeks as the application
processing in time-consuming and depends on the
volume of applications or the course.

The University of Sunderland has a student body


featuring about 20,000 students across all its national
and international campuses. In 2018-19, the university
enrolled 15,153 undergraduate, 4,027 postgraduate,
and 350 research students. About 156 nationalities are
represented by international students studying at the
university and its campuses. Countries represented in
the top ten nationalities include, England, Malaysia,
Uzbekistan, Romania, Hong Kong, China, Nigeria,
India, and Sri Lanka. In 2018-19, out of total enrolment

Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

While you are learning in the UK, your student visa


may permit you to work. This data is typically
expressed on your stamp inside identification or
Biometric Residence Permit (BRP card). It ought to
incorporate the number of hours you can work each
week. It is essential to comprehend the guidelines that
specify when and how much you are permitted to work
while studying. Generally, international students are
allowed to work 20 hours per week during the term and
full-time during vacations, if you are pursuing any of

Students are allowed to work 10 hours every week


during the term or full-time during vacations if you are

dental specialist while studying. If you work more than
your permitted hours during term time, you will be in

allowed to continue the course.

How many colleges and campuses does the


university have?

The University of Sunderland has four campuses – two


in Sunderland, one in Hong Kong, and one in London.

The City Campus is situated in the core of Sunderland


with excellent connections to the more extensive locale
and history. It is the home to the main administration
office, library, support services, lecture lobbies, and
sports facilities. Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's is
situated near the river Wear, and home to the faculties
of Law, Tourism, Business, and Social Sciences. The
London campus concentrates mainly on professional
courses in Business, Finance, Tourism, Health,
Nursing, and Social Care. In Hong Kong, the university
is situated in the island exchange center and key
disciplines taught here are Business, Finance, and
Tourism.

The university is made up of five unique faculties that


further oversees distinct schools and areas of
research. These faculties ensure quality teaching by
bringing together academic expertise and encouraging
interdisciplinary research across faculties.

Is on-campus housing available?

Sunderland is a student-friendly city and the university


a variety of accommodations for all students. The rent
costs include heating, lighting, water, fuel, Wi-Fi, and
personal belongings insurance. All accommodations
are self-catered with fully equipped kitchens and onsite
coin-operated laundry facilities. The university also
offers free transport facilities between the two
campuses and accommodation residence. There are
four residences; three are managed by the university
and one is privately handled. Students can enjoy a
riverside view from Panns Bank or Scotia Quay, the
spacious surroundings of Clanny House, or The Forge
U-Student Village offering a secure student
environment with top-notch student facilities.

You have the option to choose who you want to live


with, whether with friends or alone, in a single gender
flat, or in a single culture flat. The university also have
