RESEARCH TITLE

Animated Picture Clues Technique

An Intervention in Improving Oral Reading Performance of Grade III Pupils

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH

The researcher is facing issues where she observed a gap and difficulty of the
Grade V-SSES pupils in the development of reading power. They hardly comprehend in
aspects that need a higher level of development.

The action research aims at looking into the effect of the READING – RESPONSE
SKILLS STRATEGY in the performance of the Grade V pupils particularly in reading. The
study will also establish data to resolve performance gaps through the use of pre and post
tests that may establish data for improvement.

READING – RESPONSE SKILLS STRATEGY stresses the importance of the reader’s role
in the construction of meaning. Readers actively create their own meaning from texts and
express their individual responses and understandings. When responding, students are
encouraged to reflect on what they bring to the text as readers. This includes experiences,
knowledge, emotions, and concerns.

ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This action research sought to determine the effectiveness of the Animated Picture

Clues Technique to improve oral reading performance of Grade III pupils of Tayum Central

School during the School Year 2022-2023.

It specifically sought to answer to the following questions:

1. What is the level of oral reading performance of Grade III pupils before the implementation

of the Animated Picture Clues Technique?

2. What is the level of oral reading performance of Grade III pupils after the implementation

of the Animated Picture Clues Technique?

3.Is there a significant difference in the level of oral reading skills of the Grade III pupils

before and after the implementation of the Animated Picture Clues Technique?

PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION AND STRATEGY

The development of Animated Picture Clues Technique is use to improve the reading

performance of the Grade III pupils in English. This approach relies on animated picture

clues and leaves little room for individual comprehension. It is introduce to the pupils to use

their reading skills for them to be able to read correctly. They also learn how to follow

instructions given to them.

The Animated Picture Clues is an innovation that aims to help the pupils in reading

skills in English. The teacher gives the instruction to the pupils and told beforehand to listen

well. After the instruction, the pupils start answering the activity sheets given to them.

Simple example on the use of animated picture clues is pupils have to read first the word

and then draw a line to the picture that goes with each. The activities using animated

pictures are not only limited on the stated activity but the teacher will also implement varied

learning activities where the use of the innovative techniques can be employed.
3

Through the aforementioned procedure in the effectiveness of the Animated Picture

Clues Technique, the researchers believe that the oral reading performance of Grade III

pupils of Tayum Central School will be enhanced and improve through the use Animated

Picture Clues in teaching Filipino.

ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

Participants and /or Other Sources of Data and Information

The research study shall involve 23 learners as participants of the study. Those learners will

all come from Grade III Pearl from Tayum Central School School Year 2022-2023.

This action research will rely mainly on the results of the different oral reading activities will

be conducted during the period of the program. The descriptive method of research will be
4

used in the study to find out the reading performance of the Grade III pupils. The data will be

gather will be tabulated ,evaluated ,and analized using percentages to identify the reading

levels of the pupils.
