 Reaction Paper about Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020

RA 11479, or Anti-Terror Law of 2020, took effect on midnight of July 18. Law created

the Anti-Terrorism council that can make warrantless arrests, freeze assets of suspects, and

surveil suspects.

Our president said that law-abiding citizens need not worry if they are not terrorists,

because the aim of this law is to protect and ensure the security of the people. Terrorists are

very likely to try to carry out attacks in the Philippines and possible that even our own placed

will be one of the targets of terrorist. We should remain vigilant at all times and report anything

suspicious to the local authorities specially to the Philippine National Police. Terrorist groups

have the intent and capability to carry out attacks anywhere in the country and in places visited

by foreigners, such as shopping malls, entertainment establishments, public transport

(including airports and the metro system) and places of worship. Attacks have been carried out

using small arms and improvised explosive devices, including both vehicle and personnel

borne, as a responsible member of our society we have to cooperate and report everything to

the proper authorities if we observed any activity that not conform to the law. This law is

controversial for many but when I tried to look into it , the law clearly define that terrorism is

done by , engaging in acts intended to cause death or serious bodily injury to any person or

endangers a person’s life; engaging in acts intended to cause extensive damage or destruction

to a government or public facility, public place, or private property; Engaging in acts intended

to cause extensive interference with, damage, or destruction to critical infrastructure; Releasing

dangerous substances or causing fire, floods or explosions when the purpose is to intimidate

the general public, create an atmosphere to spread a message of fear, provoke or influence by

intimidation the government or any international organization, seriously destabilize or destroy

the fundamental political, economic, or social structures in the country, or create a public

emergency or seriously undermine public safety

Under this law, persons who propose, incite, conspire, and participate and who provide

support to ‘terrorists’ or recruit members of a ‘terrorist organization’, could face life

imprisonment without parole, for me this is the law that we really need and I haven’t see

wrong about it, instead of arguing and critic those officials approved this law why not to be

thankful because our government address terrorism as a serious matter that affect the living of

every individual.
