Seven FIFA leaders are accused of accepting $150 million in bribes over the course of more
than two decades.

These seven people were detained after being taken into custody by Swiss police at the FIFA
headquarters hotel, the Baur au Lac in Zürich.

The broad allegations of corruption, which came to light as a result of protracted, thorough
investigations, also raised concerns about the questionable 2010 decisions to give Russia and
Qatar the hosting rights for the World Cup final events in 2018 and 2022, respectively.

A 350-page report detailing the results of a two-year ethical investigation by former US

attorney Michael Garcia painted a picture of FIFA's organisational culture as one built on
greed, secrecy, and corruption.
