INTRODUCTION:
Functional, accurate and safe clinical equipment is an essential requirement in the provision
of health services. Well maintained equipment will give nurses greater confidence in the
reliability of its performance and contribute to a high standard of client care.
MEANING
 EQUIPMENT: The term "equipment" means all items necessary for the functioning of
all services of the hospital including accounting and records, maintenance of building and
ground, laundry, nursing unit, public waiting room etc. Both movable and fixed
equipment's are required for the hospital.
 SUPPLY: Supplies are those items that are used up or consumed; hence the term
consumable is used for supplies.
DEFINITION OF PLANNING EQUIPMENTS AND SUPPLIES:
Planning of equipment and supplies is defined as process of selection and organization of the
articles or items used in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients in order to
ensure that they are safe, available, accurate, and affordable.
NATURE OF EQUIPPING THE HOSPITALS:
 There are innumerable expandable items.
 It is an extensive and exhaustive work.
 There is no performed procuring system in the new hospital.
NEED OF PLANNING EQUIPMENTS AND SUPPPLIES:
 Manage safety and cost of articles.
 Overcome the problems in nursing care or other patient related activities due to
inadequacy in equipment and supplies.
 Provide reasonable level of client services
