Your institution, Hner Sanitary Co., LTD is one of the fastest-growing and
leading manufacturer of high quality sanitary ceramics and other bathroom products.
Your greatness has been delivering exceptional quality services since 1979. We firmly
believe that your mission is to provide the world with high quality sanitary equipment
for everyone, and to promote a disease-free environment. We acknowledge your
service, delivering over 4 million pieces of the finest ceramics to over 120 countries
and over 2 million households and comfort rooms effectively improving the hygiene
and comfort of all sanitary establishments. We also decided to propose a project to
guarantee the cleanliness and comfort in our school with project H.A.M.I.S. (Hygiene
And Management In Sanitation). We hope to gain your trust and support as we will
ensure proper and exceptional comfort rooms here in Barayong National High School,
our school area.
We believe that comfort rooms are one of the most important establishments,
especially to educational infrastructures. Comfort rooms accommodate thousands of
people including students, teachers etc. However, studies show that most schools in
the Philippines has no comfort rooms available. Based on an article by “Kagawaran
ng Edukasyon”, About 24% of the schools nationwide have no access to any
sanitation facilities and at most, 76% has yet to comply to the requirements set by the
Department of Education. With Project H.A.M.I.S. and the school itself, Barayong
National High School, we will protect the public’s health and improve the and
cleanliness of the sanitation facilities, we are inspired to help better and protect the
well-beings of everyone. We are indeed looking for approval and assistance as Project
H.A.M.I.S. will be making the school clean as well as making it a sickness-free
environment. Think tidy, our safety depends on cleanliness.
II. Rationale or Background
Besides the issues concerning of textbooks and chairs, public schools
everywhere in the country also had shortages of toilets, toilet bowls, and urinals.
Hygiene and sanitation can also affect education. Students had complaints ranging
from dirty sinks, clogged or unflushed toilets and a lack of toilet paper. Hygiene and
sanitation is one of the main issue that students face that affect both their health and
academic performance. Bad management in sanitation can lead to poor hygiene in
which leads to diseases such as shigellosis (bacterial infection), dysentery, diarrhea
etc. Studies have shown that common viruses and bacteria that can occur in toilets
include norovirus and influenza. This is a common respiratory virus. Symptoms of
these diseases are vomiting and flu. These diseases can affect student performance in
school. Clean sanitation facilities are essential not only for avoiding illnesses but to
also let the students feel comfortable and secure. Students would feel discouraged and
disgusted from dirty bathrooms and therefore, they will refrain from using them
especially when the facility is out of shape making them feel less comfortable.
One of the main issues within the premises of Barayong National High School
(BNHS) is that restrooms within the senior high premise are reportedly filthy, smelly
and littered with butts of cigarette and plastic wrappers. Not only is it filthy, but the
sanitary ware is in poor condition from broken faucets to clogged up urinals,
respective rooms for both genders are limited, doors are run-down and there is a lack
of equipment such as containers for water, sanitizer and toilet paper. From this
information alone, diseases and bacteria can easily be spread throughout the entire
school.
We expect that the newly built comfort rooms will accommodate over 300
people. There will be 3 sectors for the comfort rooms; 1 section for male, 1 section for
female, and 1 section for school personnel. At the end of the school year, we will be
able to conduct a thesis on how the project affected the school, its students and
teachers.
