Definition of Terms

Define the following terms;


1. Forensic - related to scientific methods of solving crimes, involving
examining the objects or substances that are involved in the crime.

2. Photography – in criminology, concludes preserving the crime scene,


records evidence, and presents the crime scene from a different perspective.

3. Photograph – photograph is the mechanical and chemical result of


Photography. Picture and photograph are not the same for a picture is a
generic term is refers to all kinds of formed image while a photograph is an
image that can only be a product of photography.

4. Criminology – is the scientific study of crime, criminals, criminal behavior,


and corrections.

5. Criminologist - one who studies crimes with reference to their origin,


propagation, prevention, punishment, etc.
- a specialist in criminology

6. Criminology Student - criminology studies topics such as understanding the


reasons people commit crime, how to predict crime, and how it can be
controlled. Criminal justice is mainly practised in institutions such as courts,
while criminology can be practised in laboratories, research centres, and
social settings.
7. Crime – a crime or offence (or criminal offence) is an act that harms not
only one individual but also society, the state, or the community as a whole.
It is illegal and punishable by law to engage in such behavior.
- an illegal act that can be punished by the government, especially a gross
violation of law that can result in punishment. A grave offense against
morality, especially one that is committed with grave intent.

8. Criminal - pertaining to, or involving, crimes or the administration of penal


justice. An individual who has been found guilty of the commission of
conduct that causes social harm and that is punishable by law; a person who
has committed a crime.

9. Omission - is meant inaction, the failure to perform a positive duty which


one is bound to do. An omission is a failure to perform a legally required act
such as paying taxes or providing care to children; a type of actus reus in
criminal law.

10.Act - any bodily movement tending to produce some effect in the external
world.
