Activity 7
1. In your own understanding, define crime and basic security. (5 pts.)

Security and Crime is an authoritative and multidisciplinary analysis of the connection

between security and crime that clarifies its relevance to criminological analysis, addresses
much of the ambiguity surrounding its nature and meaning, and pays due attention to the
topic's interdisciplinary nature.

A crime is a deliberate act that causes physical or psychological harm, damage to or loss of
property, and is against the law. There are lots of different types of crime and nearly
everyone will experience a crime at some point in their lives. Crime affects people from all
backgrounds, locations and ages.

2. What are the causes of crime, why do they happen? (10 pts.)

Crime has many complex causes. People breach the law for a variety of reasons, including
poverty, parental maltreatment, low self-esteem, and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.
Some people are more likely to commit crimes as a result of their birth circumstances.

3. How does the Philippine government prevent the rising cases of crime?

Institutions that uphold peace and order have been developed and established by the Philippine
government. These organizations are in charge of law enforcement, crime prevention, and the
capture and conviction of offenders. There may be less opportunities for crime if there are
stricter gun control legislation, juvenile delinquency prevention initiatives, and general police-
initiated crime prevention activities.
