Academic Year and
[w.e.f. 2021-22]; 2022-23 Semester IV
Semester

1. Course Description
Estimating, costing and valuation helps you determine your project's budget, schedule the work
necessary and manage new resources. Cost estimates are also very crucial when it comes to winning
new business. Property owners also use cost estimates to assess the feasibility of their projects before
embarking on actual construction. Basic knowledge of drawing, mathematics, building construction and
construction material is required. Here students will be able to learn the procedure for estimating and
costing of Civil Engineering works, how to perform rate analysis for different items associated with
construction projects and to use software for detailed estimates related to civil infrastructural projects.

2. Student Learning Outcomes

1. Select modes of measurements for different items of works.
2. Prepare approximate estimate of a civil engineering works.
3. Prepare detailed estimate of a civil engineering works.
4. Use relevant software for estimating the quantities and cost of items of works.
5. Justify rate for given items of work using rate analysis techniques.

3. Required Textbook and Reference Material
