Educator Statement

Latonya F. Millien
February 2023
Department of Behavioral Science, Mercy College.

I've always thought highly of effective instruction. Any school's academic life depends on

its learners, it is our responsibility as caretakers of higher learning to provide them with the tools

they need to be successful no matter what future career they deciding to pursue. Excellent

educators, according to my judgment, may not only assist students in developing new critical

thinking skills, but they can also inspire a passion for studying. They also could enhance the

children's perception of true life and encourage the growth of their own fresh concepts. My joy

for teaching and dedication to enhancing students' educational experiences originates mostly

from this perspective and life skills that I picked along the way in my journey. My primary

beliefs have always included compassion, encouragement, and transformation. My grandfather

and my closest friend were significant influencers on my life. They have supported me in making

decisions that will be beneficial to others. As a soon-to-be early childhood educator, I put

into consideration that each child is an outstanding, one-of-a-kind individual who requires a safe

and loving environment in which they can feel comfortable developing emotionally, physically,

socially, and academically. My love for caregiving in general started from doing volunteer work.

I initially felt at peace and as though a weight had been taken off my shoulders when I began

volunteering. I found meaning and empowerment in helping others. Assisting the nurses at my

high school during a blood drive, feeding the homeless with a religious group and school,
hanging out with kids in their children's cottage, and signing up for the Emergency Medical

Service (EMS) program are just a few examples of the volunteer work I've done. I got a preview

of what it will be like to work with individuals from different walks of life thanks to this

experience. It gave me the chance to put myself out there, see individuals from all over the

world, learn about the experiences and behaviors of many various adolescents, and it gave me

ideas for how I would lead our future. I am currently a certified Home Health Aid (HHA), this

field allows me to work with multiple age groups whose ages range from infancy to 100 years

old. Also, currently I’m in the works of curating my own care center. In working with many of

my clients it helped me learn each child’s creativity, understand their emotions, learn their

individual ways of social interactions, and assessing their engagement skills. I don't always give

my clients the right answers the first time; instead, I let them search for the solution using their

own knowledge and abilities. This is just a glimpse of how I would design my lessons for

personalized learning and self-teaching. I am able to better assist students in understanding what

they are experiencing by creating lessons that are designed to match each individual student. At

the undergraduate level, teaching our public officials and philosophers excites me. I am

optimistic that my leadership experience and my work with many ethnic and confined groups

have equipped me to handle the challenges of teaching at any level, and I am eager to begin my

career as a teacher.
