Chapter 1 Project

Spirit Wear Shopping

It is a new year and you are excited to fill your wardrobe with some of the new Riffel Royal spirit wear. Your
name was drawn at the last Grade Meeting and the SRC is giving you a $250 gift card to spend at the Spirit
Wear Store.

You must consider the following things:

 There are six items in the spirit wear store and you want them all!

 The SRC is giving you a $250 gift card to spend at the Spirit Wear Store. If you go over the $250, you
must see how much additional money you owe. If you do not use all the gift card, you must calculate
how much balance you have remaining on the card.

 One item has to be on sale. You will need to calculate the sale price of this item. The hoodie will be
20% off.

 Two items have to be from another country. You will need to calculate the currency exchange. The t-
shirt is from Mexico and the hat is from South Africa

Options of Countries to Buy From: Price for 1 t-shirt/hat

 Mexican Peso (MP) 376.50 MP
 South African Rand (SAR) 252.75 SAR

 Costa Rica Colon (CRC) 10685.675 CRC
 New Zealand Dollars (NZD) 27.25 NZD
 United States Dollars (USD) 18.75 USD

 One item has to have more than one quantity. The number of long sleeve shirts that will be purchased
is 5.

 When calculating tax – use 11% for all clothing.

Things to hand in:

 Spirit Wear Spreadsheet (with all of the cost breakdowns) – price from other
country, percent off, retail price, sale price, number of items, sub-total, taxes, total cost).

 Special Calculation Sheet (includes calculation of discount and currency exchange)

 Spirit Wear Budget Summary with all items listed and their total cost with tax. As well as the total
cost of your shopping spree and breakdown of how much you still owe the store OR how much you
have remaining on the gift card.
