OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION

OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION

WHY LEARNING OUTCOMES?

• Teachers can communicate their expectations to

students
• The curriculum becomes clear to students
• Teachers can design their instruction in an effective
manner, thereby helping students to learn meaningfully
• Teachers can choose appropriate teaching strategy
• Assessment of learning becomes more transparent
WHY LEARNING OUTCOMES?

• Promote deep learning in students

• They are measurable ways of demonstrating learning as they
clarify purpose and assessment for learning
• Provides a better way of course design through assessing &
integrating student needs, teacher’s expertise and content
requirements
• Improves overall teaching effectiveness
OBE
• Outcome based education ( OBE) is an approach to
education in which decisions about the curriculum are driven
by the exit learning outcomes that the students should display
at the end of the course
• The process shifts from a content-based input approach to
a competence-based output approach where certification
validates the achieved competences.
Outcome based Education

• The desired outcome is selected first and the

curriculum, instructional materials and
assessments are created to support the intended
outcome.

• All educational decisions are made based on how

best to facilitate the desired outcomes.

has achieved?
WHY OBE?
• Traditional curricula being self limiting, learners not
being adequately prepared for the complex and
dynamic future they are facing
• To prepare them for the complex life roles they
ultimately would occupy as young adults
• To have more learners become capable, empowered,
and successful than traditional conditions are allowing
WHY OBE?
• The outcome based education ensures that learners would
achieve predefined outcomes for the programme in which
they are enrolled
• Learners are future-oriented. They are informed about what
they have to achieve and the quality of such achievement.
