This document provides instructions for an in-class activity for a Building Information Modelling lab course. Students will draw foundations and structural slabs in their BIM model, including creating multiple building levels, a grid layout, retaining walls, steel columns, strip footings, column pedestals, foundation pads, and ground, floor, and roof slabs. The activity aims to help students meet specified course and learning outcomes for the lab assessment.

Course Code: CE-118L
Semester: Spring 2019
CLO: As per In-lab assessment rubrics
CLO Weight: As per In-lab assessment rubrics
Date of Lab: 8th April, 2019 (Sec-E), 9th April, 2019 (Sec-A) Lecture No: 7
Lecture Title: Adding Foundations and Structural Slabs
Students should draw the following in the class:
Preparation 1. Create 4 levels 10’ apart and a 6’ deep level below datum for foundation. 2. Create a grid for a 40’ x 80’ clear hall with a column in the center. 3. Create 8” thick (underground retaining) wall between datum and foundation levels. 4. Create W10x49 steel columns at all corners, mid-length of walls and center of hall for all levels above datum. (total 9 columns/level). New Task 5. Create 36” wide and 1’ deep strip (bearing) rooting under all walls. 6. Create 18”x18”x6’ pedestal under all (9) steel columns below datum. 7. Create 4’x4’x12” thick isolated foundation pad under all pedestals 8. Create Ground slab, two suspended floors and roof.
