LA2K01500240000 (std L16A) or PNR LA2K01500230000 (std L16) or
PNR LA2K01500220000 (std L15) with or without amendment(s).

(2) REASON
To introduce standard L18 (PNR LA2K01500270000).

(3) DESCRIPTION
This modification has no effect on the hardware. To do the
retrofit, the operator must only replace the OBRMs on board the
aircraft. It is not necessary to do work on the computer
mainframe.

Recommended.

1. PLANNING INFORMATION

A. EFFECTIVITY

Applicable to FLIGHT CONTROL PRIMARY COMPUTER (FCPC) PNR


LA2K01500240000 (std L16A) or PNR LA2K01500230000 (std L16)
or PNR LA2K01500220000 (std L15) with or without
amendment(s).

B. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS

C. REASON

(1) Evolution from PNR LA2K01500230000 or PNR LA2K01500240000


to PNR LA2K01500270000 (from L16 or L16A to L18)
- Correction of untimely braking if ground spoilers are
extended before takeoff.

- New tuning of roll integrator initialization logic (to
prevent marginal roll jerk phenomenon experienced at
autopilot disconnection through a side stick action).
- Detection of unwanted active mode on slave elevator
servo control on the ground.
- Correction of the multiple-prim fault behavior.
- Modification of the AP disconnection by rudder pedal
action in case of pedal sensor fault.
- Use of an estimated true airspeed when temperature
probes are inoperative.
- Introduction of the automatic trim setting function,
active with a specific wiring installed.

(2) Evolution from PNR LA2K01500220000 to PNR LA2K01500270000

- New basic law with one engine inoperative.
- Correction of "Beta target data" when there is an
engine failure if one FMGEC is defective.
- Inhibition of the Vc monitoring function for icing
condition on the ground to prevent unwanted "ALT LAW"
during takeoff and landing phases.
- BITE improvement(new information in shop zone).
- Improvement of "Ground Spoiler and Partial Lift
Damping" logics.
- Detection of unwanted "damping mode" on elevator servo
control (Blue or Yellow system).
- Improvement of "Trim setting logic" to prevent effects
of an RA failure.
- FAR 121 requirement (yaw damper order sent to FCDC).

- Improvement of alpha prot logic (possibility to
disengage alpha prot after AP disconnection without
pilot action).
- Improvement of AP disconnection logic (due to VMO/MMO
prot activation) - more robust.
- Improvement of flare logic to prevent pitch jerk if
Blue and Yellow hydraulic systems are lost and PRIM1
under MMEL.
- Improvement of gyro unit monitoring logic (because of
introduction of EMM gyro unit.
- Correction of untimely braking if ground spoilers are
extended before takeoff.
- New tuning of roll integrator initialization logic (to
prevent marginal roll jerk phenomenon experienced at
autopilot disconnection through a side stick action).
- Detection of unwanted active mode on slave elevator

To do this modification:
- Operators who do not have a Firmware Loader must replace
the old OBRMs by the new OBRMs with the new Part Numbers.
- Operators who have a Firmware Loader must reprogram the
removed OBRMs from the files of the master OBRMs.

A. MATERIAL - PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

(1) Material
The materials required for this modification are given in
Para. 2.B.

(2) Price
Free Of Charge (AIRBUS Retrofit Campaign).
The modification materials will be sent upon request, to
all airlines wishing to incorporate the improvement
themselves. In such case, neither manhours nor tests are
subject to warranty claim against the vendor.
The OBRMs that are removed and replaced must be returned
to AIRBUS FRANCE S.A.S. - AVIONICS AND SIMULATION
PRODUCTS (at the address below).

(3) Availability
The modification materials will be available 30 days
after placing order.

C. TOOLING - PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

For reprogramming of the OBRMs:


Firmware loader : RMR-PRECIS-B (37A0D0-3000-001 or -002) with
BOARD ADAPTER No.4 (37A0D0-3000-4000).
EADS - Test & Services (VFAGJ9), or equivalent.
Eraser : Spectroline-PC-2200A or equivalent.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A. REPLACEMENT OF THE OBRM’S

Refer to A/C Service Bulletin A340-27-4131 for the Job Set-Up


to remove/install the OBRMs of the FCPCs on board the
aircraft.
- Remove the quality control seals from the dog house.
- Remove the OBRMs.
- Plug in the new OBRMs:

. OBRM1 (PNR LA2K01500270100) in slot 1


. OBRM2 (PNR LA2K01500270200) in slot 2.

NOTE : The responsible quality Inspector must put his own


sticker and his own control seal on the dog house to
confirm the replacement of the OBRMs.

Refer to A/C Service Bulletin A340-27-4131 for line tests to


make sure that the OBRMs are correctly plugged in and that
the new Part Numbers are correct.

NOTE : If the OBRMs are replaced in shop, confirm the


replacement in accordance with ATP 27-93-34A.

B. REPROGRAMMING AND INSTALLATION OF THE OBRM’S (for operators


who have a Firmware Loader)

Refer to A/C Service Bulletin A340-27-4131 for the Job Set-Up


to remove/install the OBRMs of the FCPCs on board the
aircraft.
- Remove the quality control seals from the dog house.
- Remove the OBRMs.

- Remove the two screws then remove the OBRM card. Record the
OBRM S/N and the related card S/N.
- With a UV eraser, erase the EPROM memories of each side of
the removed OBRM card for 20 min each with an intensity of
12mW/cm2 (or take two blank modules if available). The EPROM
must be approximately at 25 mm (1 in) from the source.
- Put the OBRM card in position on the related OBRM housing
and install the two screws.
- After 10 min, do a "blank" check with the Firmware Loader
(RMR-PRECIS-B or equivalent).
- With the Firmware Loader, reprogram the OBRMs from the
files of the master OBRMs:

. master OBRM1: (PNR LB2K001LF270100)


. master OBRM2: (PNR LB2K001LF270200).
Refer to OBRM PROGRAMMING GUIDE with PRECIS B
Reprogrammer (37A0D0-3000-001 or -002).

- With the Firmware Loader, do a test of correct


reprogramming of the OBRMs:

. check sum of reprogrammed OBRM1 (MON): 7A01


. check sum of reprogrammed OBRM2 (COM): 9333.

- Replace the label on the front face of each OBRM:

. OBRM1 label (PNR LA2K0GENE000009)


. OBRM2 label (PNR LA2K0GENE000010).

- Plug in the new programmed OBRMs:

. OBRM1 (PNR LA2K01500270100) in slot 1


. OBRM2 (PNR LA2K01500270200) in slot 2.

make sure that the OBRMs are correctly plugged in and that
the new Part Numbers are correct.

NOTE : If the OBRMs are reprogrammed and installed in the


FCPCs in shop, confirm reprogramming and installation
in accordance with ATP 27-93-34A.
