REPORTED SPEECH

El Reported Speech se usa para contar lo que una persona ha dicho pero
sin citar las palabras textuales.

DIRECT SPEECH REPORTED SPEECH

Ana said: " We are working Ana said that they we were
so hard today" working so hard that day.

Cuando pasamos una oración de estilo directo a estilo indirecto (reported


speech) tenemos que realizar una serie de cambios:

TIEMPOS VERBALES
EXPRESIONES TEMPORALES Y DE LUGA
PRONOMBRES ( USANDO LA LÓGICA!)
Direct speech: Ana said: "We are working so hard today"

Reported speech: Ana said that they were working so hard that day

Podemos usar

"that" para SAY y TELL
introducir el
REPORTED SPEECH , Ana said that they were working so hard
pero también se that day ( no especificamos a quién se lo
dice)
puede omitir.
She told me that she was happy Ana told me that they were working so
or hard that day ( Obligatoriamente despues
She told me she was happy. de TELL : PERSONA A LA QUE SE LO DICE
REPORTED QUESTIONS:

En la REPORTED QUESTION, ya no se utiliza la forma interrogativa. La frase


adquiere forma de afirmativa.

sujeto + verbo + complementos.

Direct question: Ana asked Pablo: Are you coming to the party?
Reported question: Ana asked Pablo if he was coming to the party.

DOS TIPOS DE REPORTED QUESTIONS:

YES/ NO QUESTIONS WH- QUESTIONS

DQ: Peter asked: When will you go


DQ :Peter asked: Do you live in Paris?

REPORTED COMMANDS:
1. El tiempo verbal cambia de IMPERATIVO a INFINITIVO en la reported
command.
2. La estructura generalmente es: tell + to/not to + infinitive.
DC: Ana: Do your homework /RC: Ana told me to do my homework.
ORDERS, REQUESTS AND SUGGESTIONS IN REPORTED SPEECH

Tell The police told me to get out of the car


ORDERS
The police told me:
Get out of the car!

Order The police ordered me to get out of the car

Tell
REQUESTS: Ana told me to open the window
Ana told me:
Could you please open
the window. Ask Ana asked me to open the window

SUGGESTIONS
Paula suggested (that) we (should) go to the cinema.
Paula said: - That clause.
Why don't we

go to the cinema? Paula suggested going to the cinema.


suggest / insist - Gerund.
/ recomend

HOPES Lara promised that she would pay me the following day.
INTENTIONS
PROMISES Lara promised to pay me the following day.

"I will pay you tomorrow",
