DLP G10 Q3 WEEK 2 Day1
Week: 2
Subject: SCIENCE Grade Level:10
Date: Day: 1
Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of how feedback mechanisms help
the organism maintain homeostasis to reproduce and survive.
Performance
Standard:
Competency: Describe the feedback mechanisms involved in regulating processes in the
female reproductive system (e.g., menstrual cycle). (S10LTIIIc-35)
I. OBJECTIVES

Skills Construct a cycle diagram to represent the main events that take place in the
menstrual cycle.

(5 min)
B. Establishing a How old are you? At your age, you may already be experiencing the changes in
purpose for your body related to your stage of growth. This stage of growth and
the lesson development is called puberty. When a female enters puberty, her reproductive
( 5 min) organs begin to mature. She then experiences menstrual cycle. What is
menstrual cycle? What is menstruation?
( Emphasize that though only girls experience menstruation, boys also need to
understand this topic as to understand the behavior of girls during the period.)
F. Developing Divide the class into five groups. Ask each group to construct a cycle diagram
Mastery that represents the events that take place in the menstrual cycle and the
( 10 min) hormones involved in each phase. Let each group present their output in a
creative way. (Refer to the Rubrics)
G. Finding What is the importance of understanding the menstrual cycle?
practical (It is important to understand the menstrual cycle to be able to understand the
applications natural changes that occur in the ovary and the uterus as essential part of sexual
of concepts reproduction. The information is also useful in family planning to prevent
and skills in unwanted pregnancy.)
daily living Why do you think that a woman may feel cramping pains in her abdomen when
( 5) she is menstruating? ( Menstrual cramps can be caused by excessive secretion of
prostaglandin. Shedding of the endometrium of the uterus results in the
inflammation in the endometrial layer of the uterus.)

lesson
I. Evaluating Identify the phase of the menstrual cycle being referred to. Write the answer
learning before the number.
1. The mature egg moves to the surface of the ovary just before the mid-cycle.
2. Uterine linings begin to break down and bleeding results.
3. The mature egg travels from the ovary to the uterus.
4. The endometrium becomes thicker in preparation for the implantation of the
fertilized egg.
5. A new egg cell starts to mature within the ovary.
6. The next menstrual cycle is then about to begin.
7. The lining of the uterus becomes thin after bleeding.
8. An egg in the ovary continues to mature.
9. The mature egg is released.
10. The process of fertilization may take place.
Objective:
1.Identify the parts and function of the female reproductive system.
c. serves as the site of egg implantation; is where the fertilized egg cell develops
e. to allow flow of menstrual blood from the uterus into the vagina
Attachment B
Objective:
1. Describe the phases of the menstrual cycle.
Ovulation Phase
Luteal Phase
Follicular Phase
Menstrual Phase
Phase Events Taking Place
Menstrual Phase This occurs when fertilization does not occur. The
uterine lining begins to break down and bleeding
results. Blood, some uterine tissue and the
unfertilized egg make their way out through the
vagina. This is called the menstrual flow. The flow
lasts from 3 to seven days. It marks the beginning of
the next menstrual cycle. As menstruation is going
on, a new egg is starting to mature within the ovary.
Ovulation Phase The mature egg is released. The mature egg then
travels from the ovary to the fallopian tube as it
goes to the uterus. Generally the egg survives
within 24 to 48 hours. At this stage, the process of
fertilization may take place.
