Why first aid is important? First aid is a crucial tool for responding swiftly to incidents so that injuries can be treated effectively and fast before a skilled medical expert arrives to provide more specialized treatment.
4. Give and explain the 3’S of responding
Safety of the victim Protect the victim: If the victim is in immediate danger, take steps to protect them from further harm. This can include moving them to a safer location, immobilizing injuries, or providing basic life support measures like CPR. Safety of the area Assess the scene for safety: Before approaching the victim, survey the environment to ensure it is safe for you to do so. Look for any hazards or dangers, such as fire, chemical spills, or other potential risks. Safety of the responders Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Use the appropriate PPE, such as gloves, goggles, masks, and protective clothing, to protect yourself from potential hazards. Follow proper infection control protocols: If the emergency involves a contagious disease, take the necessary precautions to prevent infection, such as wearing gloves and masks and practicing good hand hygiene.
