• Practise freehand drawing skills with
learners. Practise drawing of a triangle,
a rectangle and a circle with learners.

skills thoroughly)
• Introduce working drawings with
examples for learners to copy. Provide
learners with a grid to do working

GRADE 7 WEEK 2 &

3.pptx

Teacher to explain the following:

1. Purpose of graphics
2. Conventions
3. Dimensions

4. Free-hand sketching

Teacher to explain: Sketching lines use thin, feint lines for the guidelines, which are
called construction lines. Use thicker, dark lines for the outlines of sketches.

Learner activity: Examples of free-hand sketches for learners to do

a) Sketch a rectangle with rounded corners

b) Sketch a triangle with rounded corners.

c) Sketch a circle

5. Working drawings

The drawing below shows the front view of a house. Make a bigger drawing of the front
view of this house.

Note the following:

• The 6 m length of the real house should be 60 mm on your drawing.
• Show the height of the side wall using a dimension line on your drawing.
• Show the height to the top of the chimney.

Teacher introduce and explain:
a) scale up and scale down
b) reasons for using scale in drawings

Learner activity:
Learners draw examples of two-dimensional drawings of one face of an object
using conventions e.g. a brick, egg box, post box, etc.

6. Introduction of 3D oblique drawings by making use of the embedded

presentation

Teacher to explain:

a) Concepts as per the power point presentation.

b) Differences between the tables below (perspective and oblique drawings)

Learners draw the following examples:
a) A match box in 3D oblique and in single vanishing point (SVP) perspective
b) A three-step staircase in 3D oblique and in SVP perspective

Note to teachers:

Learners complete activities as per the development of the lesson plan in their
exercise books. Learners must number the activities as per the hand out and
write the date as they complete the activities.
