Day Example – Explain the Scenario
Within this new semester I have noticed
that everyone in the class seems to be
very focused on achieving high grades. I
Day 1 feel pressure to conform to their
expectations and give it my full effort.
I received a lower grade on a test in this
class that I was really hoping for and felt
embarrassed to admit it to my classmates
Day 2 that achieved a higher grade. My
boyfriend confessed to me that he also
received a lower grade and we both
realized that it was okay to not be perfect
all the time

 This falls under normative
conformity because I feel if I
don’t strive like my other
classmates I will be viewed
negatively and I feel a sense of
pressure to get good grades to
arise to my classmates’
expectations.

conformity because initially, I felt
embarrassed of the mark I
received but when my boyfriend
revealed his it made me feel
more comfortable and changed
what I believed. This displays we
both conformed to each other’s
perspectives and made me
believe his perspective was more
accurate.

because the focus on earning
good grades increases the
importance which then
increases the drive to arise to
the expectations.

the size of the group, only
being one decreases the
chance of me feeling
ashamed and conforming to
reveal my mark to my
boyfriend.
 A group of students at school are
constantly wearing trendy clothes and
posting about them on social media. Other
people within the school feel pressured to
Day 3 conform their style and keep up with the
latest style as well, even if it means
spending the money they do not have.
When standing inside of the doors at the
front of the school, all students were
gathering within that small space. No one
Day 4 was moving due to the announcements, so
they decided to stay put. I decided to
leave that small area and after I went
through the doors, everyone else
followed.
In this course in unit 1, We were assigned
group projects to complete. We needed to
Day 5 conduct an experiment about our chosen
theory. I feel that when working on this
project, I needed to adjust my work and
ideas to my other group members and
their wants.
 This falls under Normative
conformity because other
students may feel pressured to
conform and hop on the trends.
They want to avoid rejection and
be accepted therefore they
conform to group expectations,
although it may be against their
beliefs.
 This falls under Majority
conformity because the influence
of my descions on others was to
conform to avoid going against
the norm. My peers may have
believed that my descion was the
right descion, therefore they
followed my actions.

conformity because I felt
pressure from my peers to
conform to the ideas they waned
based on our project. Although
this went against my wishes, I
conformed and adjusted my
ideas to please my group.

since they perceive it as
important to fit in.
