The question
Consider the block with mass 𝑚 attached to a spring with spring constant 𝑘
oscillating in the vertical plane. The whole system is subject to damping
represented by the damping coefficient 𝑏. The block is released from rest
from a position of 𝑎 below the equilibrium. Describe the motion of the block
where 𝑥 = 𝑥(𝑡) is the displacement of the block relative to equilibrium at
time 𝑡.
